YOUNG PEOPLE ON BERGMAN – Bergman behind the Beret
Lejonkulan, Dramaten, May 31 1 pm - 2 pm & 5 pm - 6 pm
A performance by and with Adam Gardelin and Angelica Herger.
During forty-five minutes we explore in all imaginable ways how Ingmar Bergman’s spirit has come to reside inside each and every one of us.
”A demon director dressed in a cardigan and beret,” is what goes through most people’s minds when you mention Ingmar Bergman. But who was he, and in what way has he come to influence modern youth culture? Our aim is to capture the young, hungry artist he once was.
This is an excellent opportunity to find out exactly what Ingmar Bergman means to you.
About the project:
”We didn’t know much about Bergman when we started. We saw that as an advantage. We could start from scratch, as it were, without any preconceptions, which meant that we were able to work without constraints. After a lot of films, reading and visits to the library we see him as … well … a human being.
We particularly enjoy the fact that we do everything ourselves. We write, direct, choreograph and act. We like to describe our style as a little bit of theatre, a little bit of dance, a little bit of singing – but with a twist of course.” /Angelica Herger och Adam Gardelin
About Adam och Angelica:
Angelica Herger
I was born and raised in the Stockholm suburb Sollentuna. I have always loved performing, even though I would say I’m very shy. I studied drama at upper-secondary school and at a folk high school. At the moment I’m doing a script writing course. I love to think of stories and write them down, but best of all is to perform on stage.
Adam Gardelin
I have just completed a drama programme at a folk high school and I have written several plays. My first play was performed at the Nynäshamn culture school when I was fifteen. My latest production was a musical that I wrote, directed and performed in at Lava in Stockholm. Theatre has always been a driving force in my life. I have been a member of various drama groups since I was seven and I trained both at upper-secondary school and at folk high school. My dream is to become a playwright and director, but I can also imagine being a drama teacher.
How we met
Adam Gardelin and Angelica Herger attended an acting course in Bergslagen. Angelica was shy, and during the first few days she didn’t talk to anyone. “The way I remember it, we first hit it off together one night in the common room after a day of hard training when I simply straddled Adam and said: “I’m no Christmas whore, I’m your whore, just your whore!” says Angelica.
Angelica is of course not a nut case. It was just a line from the cartoon “I’m Not Your Girlfriend Anymore”, on which some of the students had based a scene during the day,” says Adam. They have been together ever since. These days they live with a third person in an artists’ collective.
